Cafe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival
Known for the past 20 years as the Budapest Autumn Festival, Café Budapest
( www.cafebudapestfest.hu ) is a mixed bag, celebrating contemporary art and including
everything from music and dance to film and fine arts as well as children's programs. It's
held over 10 days from mid-October.
November
The month kicks off with a public holiday - All Saints' Day on 1 November.
After that, though, the winter season begins, with many museums and other
tourist attractions around the country sharply curtailing their hours or closing
altogether.
Christmas Markets
Each year, from late November to the end of December, Christmas markets sprout up in sev-
eral venues across Budapest, with the largest in Vörösmarty tér ( www.festivalcity.hu ) .
December
The build-up to Christmas intensifies as December wears on, and the arrival
of decorations, trees and coloured lights is a welcome and very festive sight.
New Year Gala & Ball
The calendar's most coveted ticket is this gala concert and ball ( www.opera.hu ) , held at the
Hungarian State Opera House on the last day of the year.
