GETTING AROUND BUDAPEST
Budapest is a very easy city to negotiate - the Danube clearly defines east and west and
Pest and Buda. There is a safe, efficient and inexpensive public-transport system run by BKK
(Budapesti Közlekedési Központ (Centre for Budapest Transport); 1-258 4636;
www.bkk.hu ) (formerly BKV) that is rapidly being upgraded and will never have you waiting
more than five or 10 minutes for any conveyance. Five types of transport are in general use:
metro trains on four colour-coded city lines, green HÉV trains on four suburban lines, blue
buses, yellow trams and red trolleybuses. But you can also get around under your own
steam by bicycle, car or motorbike.
