In-Depth Information
€9-12, d €28-32; ; M4 Rákóczi tér, 4, 6)
This colourful place has 100 beds, including dorms with four to 16 beds (two are for women
only) and twins and doubles. There's a great kitchen and common room, as well as a terrace
with bar, a summer kitchen and a pool if you fancy a splash about. (It's small and plastic but
full of water. It's a pool, trust us.)
The hostel is located above a Latin American cultural centre.
BOUTIQUE HOTEL
BRODY HOUSE
; M3 Kálvin tér, 47, 49)
Offering retro chic at its hippest, this erstwhile residence of the prime minister when Parlia-
ment sat at No 8 (as seen on the 20,000Ft note) has been refurbished but not altered substan-
tially, with antique furnishings and modern art blending seamlessly in its eight unique
guestrooms dedicated to local and international artists. A minor drawback is the lack of a
lift.
The public rooms are light, breezy and enormous; one even has a piano. The hotel also
offers apartments for long and short let.
HOTEL
KÁLVIN HOUSE
€49/59/79/79; ; M3/4 Kálvin tér, 47, 49)
Rooms in this atmospheric old apartment block range over four storeys and have original
wooden floors, enormously high ceilings (particularly no 109), plants, and vintage furniture
dating to the early 20th century. Some of the 36 rooms have balconies and bathtubs. The
rooms facing the inner courtyard are cooler in summer, and happily there's a lift. Breakfast
is included.
B&B
BUDAPEST ROOMS
; M2 Astoria, M3/4 Kálvin tér, 47, 49)
This small and very clean B&B consists of just five tranquil rooms with high ceilings and
great showers, each individually decorated in soothing colours and presided over by one of
the nicest, most helpful hosts in town. The fully equipped kitchen is a boon for self-caterers.
