In-Depth Information
This magnificent 179-room hotel was created out of the long-derelict Art Nouveau Gresham
Palace (1906) and a lot of blood, sweat and tears. No expense was spared to piece back to-
gether the palace's Zsolnay tiles, mosaics and celebrated wrought-iron Peacock Gates lead-
ing north and south from the enormous lobby, and the hotel is truly worthy of its name.
The spa on the 5th floor, with a smallish infinity lap pool and iced towels at the ready, is
among the most beautiful in the city.

This has got to be the most chilled hostel in Budapest. Run by two affable ladies, it has four
themed rooms (India, Africa, Japan and - our favourite - Space). We love the colours and
fabrics, the in-house massage, and the dorms with loft sleeping for four to eight. There are a
couple of nearby apartments available as well.

Sleeping on a former river ferry anchored in the Danube may not be everyone's idea of a
good time, but it's a unique experience. This 'boatel' has 42 single and double air-condi-
tioned rooms with shower and toilet at water level. Below deck, an additional 14 rooms with
one, two or three beds and washbasin are not unlike old-fashioned hostel accommodation.
There's a popular restaurant serving Balkan grills on deck.

This budget to midrange place in Pest offers 15 studio apartments of approximately 20 sq
metres with kitchenettes in a basic but clean building at some rock-bottom prices. The more
expensive units have air-con and balconies; all have TV. Prices are negotiable, especially
during the low season (November to mid-March) and at weekends.
