The Art'otel is a minimalist establishment that would not look out of place in London or
New York. But what makes this 165-room place unique is that it cobbles together a seven-
storey modern building (views of the castle and the Danube) and an 18th-century baroque
building, linking them with a leafy courtyard-atrium. We love the gaming theme throughout.

Perched above the Danube on Castle Hill, the Hilton was built carefully in and around a
14th-century church and baroque college (though it still has its hardcore preservationist de-
tractors). It has 322 somewhat sombre rooms, with dark carpeting and low lighting, but you
can't beat the views. Guests pay for wi-fi.

The Mellow Mood Group's flagship top-end hotel is housed in a 15th-century town house,
but apart from a bit of vaulted brick ceiling in the lobby you'd never know that. The 25
rooms and suites, done up in warm shades of brown, tan and beige, look on to a cobbled
street or face a relaxing courtyard planted with grass and trees.

Housed in a venerable 700-year old building right in the heart of the Castle District, this
somewhat over-the-top boutique hotel is all period grandeur, its four classes of suites featur-
ing such touches as green marble in the decor, imported Italian furniture and Jacuzzis
(which are a welcome anachronism).
