The following price indicators represent the cost per night of a standard double room
in high season.

Extra Costs
Travel agencies levy a surcharge (at least for the first night) if you stay fewer than
three nights in a private room.
Budapest levies a 4% local tourist tax on those aged 18 to 70.
Some top-end hotels in Budapest do not include the whopping 18% VAT on accom-
modation in their listed rack rates; make sure you read the bottom line.
Seasons
The low season for hotels runs roughly from mid-October or November to March (not
including the Christmas and New Year holidays). The high season is the rest of the
year, when prices can increase substantially.
Breakfast
The rate quoted for hostel and hotel accommodation usually includes breakfast, but
check.
