What's New
M4 Metro Line Opens
We didn't think we'd live to see the day, but - sound the trumpets - the first section of Bud-
apest's long-awaited M4 metro line linking Keleti train station in Pest with Kelenföld station
in Buda has opened. And it's a cracker. First promised in 1998 with an opening date of 2003,
the new line covers 7.5km and counts 10 stations (two of them transfers to lines M2 and M3).
Regulated Taxis
After decades of passengers' blood, sweat and/or tears, Budapest taxis are now fully regu-
lated, with uniform flag fall (450Ft) and per-kilometre charges (280Ft). It's about time.
Liszt Academy
Liszt Academy, the nation's foremost classical-music venue, an Art Nouveau jewel built in
1907, has emerged from a two-year, €44.8-million renovation shinier and prettier than ever
before. So too the Pesti Vigadó (1865), almost as grand but acoustically challenged.
Bicycles for All
Following in the footsteps of Paris, London and, er, Izmir, Budapest has launched its own
public bicycle-sharing scheme. Phase one of Bubi Bikes involves 1000 bicycles available
from 75 docking station across the city.
Escape Games
Puzzle fans will adore the city's latest craze, where small groups lock themselves in themed
spaces with just an hour to riddle their way to freedom.
Rácz Baths
Cross your fingers and hope to soak…By the time you read this the wonderful Turkish-era
Rácz Baths may be open and operational after a very long spell closed.
Ferencváros Football Club
Love 'em or hate 'em, the Fradi boys in green have taken ownership of a new purpose-built,
23,000-seat stadium a stone's throw from their former home.
