In-Depth Information
Subtitled 'Csülök & Jazz', retro-style Erm's, with its walls festooned with early-20th-century
memorabilia and simple wooden tables, is where to go for Hungarian-style pork knuckle in
all its guises, and live music at the weekend. Burgers now too.
MEXICAN
PALAPA
noon-10pm Sun-Thu, to midnight Fri & Sat)
The Mexican food - from tacos to fajitas - at this colourful restaurant (with live music at the
weekend) makes it the perfect place for a change from Hungarian fare. The garden fills up
quickly in warm weather.

Vaulted ceilings, whitewashed walls, a huge cellar for tasting wine and a wonderful terrace
overlooking the Danube are all highlights at the Promenade, one of Szentendre's best res-
taurants, serving 'enlightened' Hungarian and international dishes.
CAFE
ADRIA

;
Kossuth Lajos utca 4; noon-10pm)
This funky little spot by the canal has a cosy interior bedecked in bright colours and a tree-
shaded terrace. Expect soulful music served alongside your choice of coffee or tea and cake.
It does Balkan grilled dishes (from 800Ft), too.
CAFE
JOVIALIS
Our favourite recent addition in Szentendre is an ultramodern but very comfortable little
cafe attached to the Margit Kovács Ceramic Collection. The welcoming staff are fonts of in-
formation.

Slither into this place, a cellar bar and cafe near Castle Hill named after a kind of zither, to
escape the tourist hordes and rehydrate.
