Just 5km northwest of Szentendre and accessible by bus 230 from the local station is Hun-
gary's most ambitious
skanzen
(open-air folk museum), with farmhouses, churches, bell
towers, mills and so on set up in eight regional divisions, as well as the walls of a Roman
villa excavated in the area. Craftspeople and artisans do their thing on random days (gener-
ally at the weekend) from Easter to early December, and the museum hosts festivals
throughout the season.
