Budapest's Top 10
Great Synagogue
8 The largest Jewish temple in Europe, the Moorish-style Great Synagogue is
one of Budapest's most eye-catching buildings. Built in 1859 for 3000 conser-
vative faithful, the copper-domed structure is next to the Hungarian Jewish Museum
and the haunting Holocaust Memorial Room. In the courtyard stands the Holocaust
Memorial, a 'tree of life' designed by sculptor Imre Varga whose leaves bear the
family names of many of the victims. ( Click here )
