'Sunny Tastes' is a titch out of the way (though not if you're staying on or near Andrássy
út), but the friendly welcome, cute cellar space and wholesome vegan foods are worth the
trip. There is an organic shop where you can stock up on both packaged and baked goods,
including excellent cakes.

Carmel, a glatt kosher eatery, offers authentic Ashkenazi specialities such as gefilte fish,
matzo-ball soup and a cholent (hearty brisket and bean casserole) that's almost as good as
the one Aunt Goldie used to make. Pre-paid Shabbat dinner service is available Friday even-
ing and Saturday lunch.

Housed upstairs in an old school in the Orthodox Synagogue complex, this eatery is pretty
basic, but if you answer to a Higher Authority on matters culinary it is another option for
kosher food. On the Sabbath you order and pay for meals in advance. Set three-course menu
is 5300Ft.

An elegant and upmarket place to try a good range of traditional Hungarian delicacies and
wines from around the country. It's formal but not stuffy, with helpful, friendly service and
well-prepared dishes. Reservations recommended. There's also a branch in the Buda Hills.
