Set up by former journalists, this retro-style restaurant called 'Hack', with lovely old
mementos on the walls, great homestyle cooking, a good wine list and nightly piano music,
has been one of our favourite Hungarian 'nostalgia' eateries for years.

It may not look like much, but get closer and your olfactories will tell you that this little
hole-in-the-wall place with upstairs tables serves some of the best home-cooked Indian food
in Budapest. The signature tandoori dishes are excellent, and there's also a good choice of
vegetarian dishes.

This ever-so-traditional Hungarian eatery with the retro shop sign in front has been serving
up classic gulyásleves (hearty beef soup; 780Ft), bone marrow on toast (1650Ft) and
Kaposvár-style stuffed cabbage (2250Ft) for over a century. It's tried and tested and true.

A perennially popular eatery started by Italians more than 20 years ago, Okay Italia does a
full range of dishes, but most people come for the pasta and pizza. The terrace on the Big
Ring Rd is a lively place to meet in summer.

This is the place to head when you really could eat a horse (which may or may not be on
one of the serving tables). It's an enormous buffet of more than 100 cold and hot dishes over
which appreciative diners swarm like bees.
