The elaborate 'Danube Palace' is diagonally opposite the main Central European University
building. It hosts any number of cultural performances, from light-classical-music concerts
to folk dance by the Hungária Orchestra & Folk Ensemble, at 7pm throughout the week for
the most part from June to October.

This theatre presents operettas, which are always a riot, especially campy ones like
The
Gypsy Princess
by Imre Kálmán or Ferenc Lehár's
The Merry Widow,
with their over-the-
top staging and costumes. Think baroque Gilbert and Sullivan - and then some. There's an
interesting bronze statue of Kálmán outside the main entrance.

At this cultural centre in Lipótváros, the wonderful Kalamajka Táncház has programs from
7pm on Saturday that run till about midnight. Bring the kids in earlier (about 5pm) for a
children's version.
