The 'Pub for Rent' is a great place for a swift pint and a quick bite (sandwiches 870Ft to
1570Ft, salads 1590Ft) just a stone's throw - and light years - away from flashy VI Liszt
Ferenc tér. Breakfast is on till noon and there's a bargain set lunch for 900Ft.

This bistro at the southern end of Budapest's Broadway takes wine (and itself) very seri-
ously indeed. About the only thing funny about this place is its cheesy name - a clumsy pun
on Bordeaux and
bor
('wine' in Hungarian). The food - Thai-Vietnamese fusion - is an af-
terthought.

This serene place with quite a mouthful of a name (it means 'Teahouse at the Sign of the
Red Lion') just north of Liszt Ferenc tér is quite serious about its teas (680Ft to 1190Ft). It's
on two levels.

The pretty little 'Ballet Slipper' in the theatre district - just behind the Hungarian State
Opera House - is a delightful place to stop for a rest and refreshment or to have a snack or
light meal (dishes 950Ft to 1800Ft).

Camp as a caravan park - agreed - but we always have fun at this romantic spot near the
Opera House. Music starts nightly around 10pm. Cocktails are especially good (if a titch
pricey) and you won't lack for nibbles.
