In-Depth Information
1-311 6690; XIII Szent István körút 13; mains 450-1500Ft;
9am-4am;
4, 6)
A very inexpensive self-service Turkish place good for
lahmacun
(Turkish 'pizza', 650Ft),
falafel (1100Ft) and kebabs (from 1300Ft), with up to a dozen varieties on offer. It heaves
after midnight, so whoever you were cruising in the pub or on the dance floor probably got
here before you did.
SANDWICHES
FRUCCOLA
sandwiches 400-830Ft; 7am-7pm Mon-Fri; M3 Arany János utca, 72, 73)
Alive and well and bursting with flavour, what bills itself as a 'fast casual restaurant' pulls
in the punters with its excellent baguettes, self-build salads and fresh vegetable and fruit
juices.
ITALIAN
DA MARIO
11am-midnight; 15, M2 Kossuth Lajos tér)
Owned and operated by three Italian
ragazzi
(lads) from southern Italy, Da Mario (yes, he's
one of them) can't put a foot wrong in our book. While the cold platters, soups and meat and
fish mains all look good, we stick to the house-made pasta dishes (2000Ft to 3500Ft) and
pizzas (1250Ft to 3000FT) from the wood-burning stove.
HUNGARIAN
KISPIAC
noon-10pm Mon-Sat; M3 Arany János utca)
This recent arrival is a hole-in-the-wall retro-style restaurant next to the Hold utca market
serving
seriously
Hungarian things like stuffed
csülök
(pig's trotter - and way better than it
sounds), roast
malac
(piglet) and an infinite variety of
savanyúság
(sour pickled vegetables).
Thoroughly enjoyable and you might not eat again for a week.
