In-Depth Information
Hungarian goodies, retrace your steps and turn left down Szerb utca, where 2 Hec-
serli is bursting with jams, honey, cooked meats and homemade syrups. Continue to
the end of Szerb utca and turn right onto pedestrianised Váci utca, the city's main
shopping strip. Easily missed here is the Hungarian designer 3 Valeria Fazekas , who
creates wonderful and unusual headgear. Just around the corner, 4 Kamchatka
Design showcases more interesting, locally produced fashion. For a hipper selection
of pieces, take a left up Veres Pálné utca, where 5 Wonderlab brings together numer-
ous up-and-coming designers.
A short stroll north brings you to Ferenciek tere. Cross Kossuth Lajos utca and re-
join Váci utca before taking a right into Haris köz. Here you'll find two great institutions
of Budapest commerce - the glove- and shoemakers 6 Balogh Kesztyű Üzlet and
7 Vass Shoes . On the opposite side of the street, 8 Nami has seriously cute toys of-
fering a more modern take on handmade Hungarian craft. Backtrack to Váci utca and
continue north so as not to miss the gorgeous paper craft at 9 Bomo Art on Régi
Posta utca. At the end of this street take a right, and check out the modern Hungarian
designs at a Magma . A left down Pilvax köz will bring you on to Vitkovics Mihály utca,
where b Garden Studio has yet more excellent local fashion, and c Holló Atelier
beautifully handcrafted Hungaricum. At the end of the street, d Rododendron is a
great place for quirky gifts, and in tiny Röser udvar, you'll find e Kontakt , for a well-
deserved coffee. At the other end of Röser udvar you'll emerge onto Károly körút, with
easy access to the metro at Astoria.

Hungarian meat dish known to humankind, and whose name could be loosely translated as
