As chilled a place to drink and nosh as you'll find in south Buda, the Tranzit made its home
in a small disused bus station, put art on the walls and filled the leafy courtyard with ham-
mocks and comfy sofas. Breakfast and sandwiches are available, and two-course lunches
(including a veggie one) can be had for 1200Ft during the week.

Close to the Budapest University of Technology & Economics (BME), the 'Little Pirate' is,
not surprisingly, very popular with students. But don't be misled - it's an attractive and
well-run place with decent food available, including cheap set lunches at 990Ft.

This place has brought history back to Bartók Béla út. The Hadik is a revived olde-worlde
cafe that pulled in the punters for almost four decades before being shut down in 1949. It's
now back, as relaxed and atmospheric as ever. Excellent daily lunch menu for 990Ft.

The 'Pulp Fiction' is a quirky little place that has a loyal following despite all the new com-
petition in this part of south Buda and the fact that it's clearly not as friendly as it once was.
The old books and fringed lampshades are a nice touch, though, and the coffee (660Ft to
700Ft) is excellent.

The shop that introduced Hungary to marzipan and opened an outlet on every high street in
the land has now started up its own line of attractive cake shops, including this one in south
Buda's Allee Shopping Centre.
