High altitudes, rough roads and lack of access make Tibet a hard place for people with mo-
bility difficulties. Monasteries in particular often involve a hike up a hillside or steep, very
narrow steps. Few hotels offer any facilities for the disabled.
Braille Without Borders
Blind visitors can contact this excellent organisation based in Lhasa. It developed the first
Tibetan Braille system and runs a school for blind Tibetan kids, as well as supporting a
