HOTEL DISCOUNTS
In some areas of Tibet, notably in Lhasa, accommodation prices vary seasonally.
Midrange and top-end hotels in particular almost always discount their rooms from the
largely fictitious rack rates. We list full high-season rates (May to September) throughout.
Any usual discounts will be noted, and be aware that prices will be even more discounted
in winter.
Camping
Camping out is well understood by Tibetans, many of whom still spend their summers herd-
ing livestock in mountain valleys. Always ask permission if camping near a settlement or
encampment, watch out for the dogs and expect an audience.
