Getting There & Away
There are flights and trains to Chéngdū from every city in China. Multiple flights per day
depart for Lhasa (¥1670, discounts of 30% common) and there are three flights a week to
Shigatse (¥1880).
Getting Around
The most useful bus is route 16 (¥2), which connects the north and south train stations
along Renmin Nanlu.
Taxis have a flag fall of ¥8 (¥1 extra at night) for the first 2km.
Most hostels rent bikes for ¥20 per day.
TRAIN
Chéngdū's shiny new metro currently has two lines. Useful Line 1 links the North and
South Train Stations along the length of Renmin Lu. East-west Line 2 meets Line 1 at Ti-
anfu Sq before continuing west to Chádiànzì Bus Station. Line 3, which will run to the
Panda Breeding Base and Xīnnánmén bus station, and Line 4, for the new Chéngdū West
Train Station, are due to be completed by 2015. Rides cost ¥2 to ¥6 depending on distance.
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
Shuāngliú airport (Shuāngliú Fēijīchǎng) is 18km west of the city. Airport shuttle buses
(Jīchǎng Dàbā GOOGLE MAP ; www.cdairport.com ; ¥10; 6am-10pm, varies by route) run into
town; take route 1 for the city centre or route 2 for the South and North Train Stations via
Renmin Lu.
A taxi costs around ¥70, depending on the traffic, or arrange a pickup through one of the
hostels for around ¥90.
