Ngan-tso & Rawok-tso LAKE
Ringed by mountains, and joined by a stream so that on the map they resemble the infinity
symbol, these are the largest lakes in Kham. Ngan-tso is the more westerly and so is the
one seen first by travellers from Lhasa. Ask your guide to show you how to get to the old
village near Rawok (on the lake's northeastern shore) to visit the large chörten and small
temple nearby overlooking Ngan-tso. You need to drive another 6km southeast to visit
Rawok-tso.
Píng'ān Fàndiàn GUESTHOUSE
( 456 2606; dm/tw ¥30/220; )
A few hundred metres west of the main strip is this popular place with a lively restaurant
and ageing but decent twin rooms in the main building. There's also a romantic alternative
in the form of a cabin on stilts hovering above the cool-blue waters of Ngan-tso (when the
lake waters are high enough, that is).
Staff are friendly and the lobby/restaurant has a cosy wood-burning stove. If you need
fancier digs the owner has another hotel nearby.
Ránwū Bīnguǎn GUESTHOUSE
( 139 8905 8387; tr ¥220; )
Close to town, this place has acceptable rooms and also a good restaurant with wi-fi.
