Unless it's getting late in the day or you are stopping for a meal (there are Chinese, Tibetan
and Hui Muslim places on the main road), it's best to avoid this town. Few hotels accept
foreigners, and those that do are overpriced and must be chosen carefully to avoid some
shockingly sub-standard conditions. The PSB are also very unwelcoming and recently
seem to have made it a point to pay the very rare foreign travellers who do stay a midnight
hotel-room visit.
