One of several hotels located at the southern edge of town that caters mostly to groups of
Indian pilgrims. Most of the rooms are dormitory style, though there are a few doubles and
triples, all of which share the clean bathroom (hot showers ¥10). It's at the top of the hill
on the Zhāngmù side (just past the petrol station).
Shishapangma Hotel International HOTEL

Nyalam's biggest and newest hotel is surprisingly grand and easily ranks as Tibet's best
hotel west of Shigatse. The building overlooks Nyalam from the main Friendship Hwy by-
pass, offering fine valley views. Rooms are spacious and modern and guests are offered a
free traditional dance show in the auditorium. There are also three-, four- or six-bed rooms
with shared bathrooms.
Eating
Snowland Restaurant INTERNATIONAL

Popular with alpinists (every one of whom seems to have left a memento on the wall), the
Snowland doles out a few Western dishes, including some filling pancakes, but is strongest
on Tibetan and Chinese food. It's located up a rickety flight of stairs.
Tibetan Village Restaurant TIBETAN

Bright and hip, with Tibetan-style decor and friendly staff, this is the place for good
Tibetan food in civilised surroundings.
Kailash Cafe NEPALI

If you have a hankering for a chicken curry set and just can't wait until you get to Nepal,
this simple Nepali-run place offers a limited range of authentic homecooked food washed
down with masala chai.
