In-Depth Information
Héhū Bīnguǎn HOTEL
( 136 4892 2335; dm ¥50-80, d with bathroom ¥260)
This large hotel probably has the edge over other places in town. The en-suite rooms are
clean and carpeted with a Western toilet and hot-water shower. The price of the beds in the
cheaper rooms depends on the quality of the mattresses. There are shared squat toilets but
no shared hot showers.
Snow Leopard Guesthouse HOTEL
(, Xuěbào Kèzhàn 826 2711; d without/with bath ¥100/280)
Some 4WD drivers and guides try to swing their customers here but look at a few other
places in town first. Rooms come with attached bathroom. The mountain views are better
here because it's out on the eastern edge of town.
Eating
Base Camp Restaurant TIBETAN
(, Dàběnyíng Cāntīng dishes ¥20-50; )
The best place in town is this pleasant Tibetan-style restaurant attached to the Héhū Bīn-
guǎn, boasting traditional furniture, helpful staff and tasty Chinese and Tibetan dishes.
Prices are reasonable for Tingri.
Around Tingri
Tsamda Hot Springs HOT SPRINGS
( 139 0892 4147)
These odourless, iron-rich springs 12km west of Tingri are piped directly into a tepid pub-
lic pool (¥20), or you can rent a private room with simple bath (¥40) for a couple of hours.
Don't expect spa treatments but it might be just the thing for cleaning yourself off after a
day or two at Everest Base Camp.
