The Jiànzàng, with English-speaking staff, offers rooms in a quiet new courtyard block
with en suite rooms and 24-hour hot water. If pressed, staff will also show you the quad
rooms with showers down the hall. The hotel is popular with 4WD groups and the 2nd-
floor Tibetan-style restaurant is a cosy option for breakfast or a cup of tea.

Dhugu Hotel
HOTEL
This courtyard hotel has 24-hour hot water, clean wood-floor rooms and lobby wi-fi, mak-
ing it a decent budget choice. It lacks charm and sitting areas but it seems well maintained.
Gyantse Hotel
HOTEL
Despite being the largest hotel in town and popular with groups, this cavernous old-school
place still feels like a Communist Party hotel from the 1980s. Rooms are plain but car-
peted and there is 24-hour hot water. There's plenty of Tibetan kitsch but wi-fi is only
available in the lobby. Rooms in B wing are the best.
Shambhala Serai Gyantse
BOUTIQUE HOTEL
Lhasa's Shambhala Serai team were putting the final touches on this stylish new place at
the time of research. It has 10 rooms in a great location in an old merchant's house next to
the Pelkhor Chöde Monastery.
