YARLUNG TSANGPO VALLEY
The serene waters of the braided Yarlung Tsangpo meander through a swath of land
flanked by dramatic sand dunes and rich in Tibetan history. It's only a couple of hours
from Lhasa and the numerous attractions are relatively near one another, allowing you to
see the main sights in two or three days. With more time you could spend days exploring
the various side valleys on foot or by mountain bike.
Gongkar

Gongkar's main claim to fame is its airport, but there are also a couple of interesting mon-
asteries west of the airport. Note that there are three places called Gongkar: the airport, the
Gongkar Chöde Monastery 10km to the west and the county town of Gònggā Xiàn (, ),
about 10km to the east.
