In-Depth Information
therefore,
they have properties suitable for stabilizing and prolonging their
lifetimes.
There are many questions that still remain in the preparation of triplet alkyl
nitrenes and understanding their reactivity. For example, quintet alkyl dinitrenes
have yet to be identified, and no high-spin units have been assembled from triplet
alkyl nitrenes because methods for making quintet alkyl dinitrenes have not been
developed. Overall, we need to identify how substituents can be used to manipulate
the reactivity and intersystem crossing rates of triplet alkyl nitrenes, hence they can
be used in synthetic and materials science applications.
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
We acknowledge the National Science Foundation, the Ohio Supercomputer Center
and the ACS Petroleum Research Foundation for their generous support for studying
triplet alkyl nitrene intermediates. ADG thanks Dr. K. Kristinsson for his technical
support. SM and RAAUR express gratitude for support from the University Research
Council at the University of Cincinnati and Harry B. Mark Jr. Fellowships.
