yard is good value. Large windows and a judicious use of mirrors create a bright (and very
quiet) environment just steps from busy bd Beaumarchais and place de la Bastille. Breakfast

A short stroll from Marché Popincourt, this modern hotel is a bright space with 32 well-

there's a petit dej 'sur la pouce' ('on the run') - pastries and a hot drink to take away - served

This flower-bedecked 27-room hostelry, just around the corner from the Marché aux Rouges
Enfants, is something of a find because of its slightly off-the-beaten-track location. Break-
fast (€12) is served in a 16th-century vaulted cellar.

( MAP GOOGLE MAP ;

Bastille)
Equidistant from the Bastille and the Marais, 30-room Castex retains a certain 17th-century
charm with its vaulted stone cellar used as a breakfast room, terracotta floor tiles and toile
de Jouy wallpaper. Try to get one of the independent rooms (1 and 2) off the lovely patio; no
3 is a two-room suite or family room. Breakfast €11.

Just across the road from the Village St-Paul, le septième art (or seventh art, as the French
know cinema) is a fun place for film buffs, with its jaunty 1950s and '60s movie posters and
cinematic black-and-white bathroom tiling. The ground-floor reception doubles as a cosy
cafe-bar selling postcards and figurines. Breakfast €8.
