In-Depth Information
€65-155, d & tw €115-175; ; Abbesses)
A good choice if you want to stay in Montmartre and not break the bank is this 22-room
hotel. Although the rooms are nothing to crow about, its location is unbeatable - just oppos-
ite the Abbesses metro station. Some rooms have views over Paris.
HOSTEL
HOTEL CAULAINCOURT SQUARE
€25-30, s €60-70, d €70-86; ; Lamarck-Caulaincourt)
This hotel with dorm rooms is perched on the backside of Montmartre, beyond the tourist
hoopla in a real Parisian neighbourhood. The rooms are in decent condition, with parquet
floors and a funky design, though there is no lift. Wi-fi in the reception area only. Single
travellers should also note there are no communal hang-out areas, meaning you won't meet
others easily.
HOTEL
HÔTEL ELDORADO
€65-94, tr €82-102; ; Place de Clichy)
This bohemian place is one of Paris' greatest finds: a welcoming, reasonably well-run hotel
with 23 colourfully decorated and (often) ethnically themed rooms, with a private garden at
the back. Unfortunately rooms facing the garden will probably be quite noisy as they look
out onto the restaurant - earplugs may be a good idea. Cheaper-category singles have wash-
basin only.
HOTEL
RÉPUBLIQUE HÔTEL
€55-87, d €60-100, tr €135; ; République)
This hip spot is heavy on pop art - local street artists did some of the paintings - and fea-
tures what is possibly the narrowest elevator in Paris, if not the world. Regardless of what
you think about the garden gnomes in the breakfast room or the poor sound-proofing (bring
earplugs), you won't be able to fault the inexpensive rates and fantastic location off place
République.
