Not to be confused with the Relais du Louvre next door, this fairly recent addition to the
Parisian hotel scene is warmly welcomed. It has just 20 rooms split across five floors - a
couple on each floor are lucky enough to ogle the majestic Louvre across the street.
Decor is contemporary and stylish - lots of white and oyster grey to show off those envi-
able views to perfection - and the kettle with tea and coffee in each room is an appreciated,
atypical-for-Paris perk. Check the hotel website for last-minute deals and special offers.
HISTORIC HOTEL
HÔTEL ST-MERRY
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 42 78 14 15; www.hotelsaintmerryparis.com ; 78 rue de la Verrerie, 4e; d
€170-240, tr €295; ; Châtelet)
The interior of this 12-room hostelry, with beamed ceilings, church pews and wrought-iron
candelabra, is a neo-Goth's wet dream; you have to see the architectural elements of room 9
(flying buttress over the bed) and the furnishings of room 12 (choir-stall bed board) to be-
lieve them. On the downside there is no lift connecting the postage-stamp lobby with the
four upper floors, and not all rooms have air-con.
BOUTIQUE HOTEL
LE RELAIS DU LOUVRE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 40 41 96 42; www.relaisdulouvre.com ; 19 rue des Prêtres St-Germain
l'Auxerrois, 1er; s €135-180, d €175-263, tr €235-263; ; Pont Neuf)
If you like style in a traditional sense, choose this lovely 21-room hotel just west of the
Louvre and across the street from Église St-Germain l'Auxerrois with its melodious chime
of bells. The nine rooms facing the street and church are petite, while room 2 has access to
the garden.
HOTEL
HÔTEL THÉRÈSE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 42 96 10 01; www.hoteltherese.com ; 5-7 rue Thérèse, 1er; s & d
€180-310; ; Pyramides)
From the same people who brought you the Left Bank's lovely Hotel Verneuil, the Thérèse
is ideal for those with a fetish for Japanese food - this chic address is steps from rue Ste-
Anne and Japantown. Rooms are individually decorated, classical yet eclectic in design.
In nicer rooms, expect stylish linen panels on the windows and tubs in the bathroom. The
cheaper, smaller rooms - and they are small - have showers. Highlight: the clubby library
lounge.
