to 12.30am Wed, to 1.30am Thu, to 5am Fri, 7.30pm-5am Sat; Quai de la Gare)
In the regenerating Paris Rive Gauche area, increasingly known for its cutting-edge venues,
this urbanite glass-and-steel loft club and restaurant has carved out a name for itself as a
stylish weekend venue for soul, funk, deep house, garage and disco, courtesy of visiting
DJs. Thursday and Sunday evenings are tamer but still DJ-fed dance.
BAR
LE MERLE MOQUEUR
Friendly and convivial, the tiny, retro Mocking Magpie serves a huge selection of rum
punches (more than 20 at last count) and unearths long-forgotten '80s tracks from the music-
al vaults.
BAR
LA FOLIE EN TÊTE
5pm-2am Mon-Sat, some Sun; Corvisart)
Guitars and brass instruments strung on the walls attest to this jammed little bar's musical
roots. Although it no longer features the profusion of acts it did in decades past, it still hosts
occasional live
chansons,
world music, jazz and rock; check the line-up online. Already-
cheap drinks are even cheaper during happy hour (5pm to 8pm).
BAR
SPUTNIK
2pm-2am Mon-Sat, 4pm-
midnight Sun; ; Corvisart or Place d'Italie)
Sputnik began life as an internet cafe (remember those?) and these days its large bar, buzz-
ing pavement terrace on one of Paris' funkiest streets and a pool table and foosball make it a
chilled-right-out student haven.
ENTERTAINMENT
Many of the 13e's floating nightclubs have live music. Events regularly take
