Getting Around
Walking is a pleasure in Paris, but the city also has one of the most efficient and inexpensive
public transport systems in the world, making getting around a breeze.
Metro & RER The fastest way to get around. Runs from about 5.30am and finishes
around 12.35am or 1.15am (and to around 2.15am on Friday and Saturday nights), de-
pending on the line.
Bicycle Virtually free pick-up, drop-off VĂ©lib' bikes operate across 1800 stations citywide.
Bus Good for parents with prams/strollers and people with limited mobility.
Boat The Batobus is a handy hop-on, hop-off service stopping at eight key destinations
along the Seine.
Sleeping
Paris has a wealth of accommodation, but it's often complet (full) well in advance. Reserva-
tions are recommended any time of year, and are essential during the warmer months (April
to October) and during all public and school holidays.
Accommodation outside central Paris is marginally cheaper than within the city, but it's al-
most always a false economy, as travelling consumes time and money. Choose somewhere
within Paris' 20 arrondissements, where you can experience Parisian life the moment you
step out the door.
