In-Depth Information
Enviably situated on tree-studded place de la Contrescarpe, the Delmas is a hot spot for
chilling over
un café/
cappuccino or all-day breakfast. Cosy up beneath overhead heaters
outside to soak up the street atmosphere or snuggle up between books in the library-style in-
terior - awash with students from the nearby universities.
If you're looking for the bathrooms, note that Jacqueline is for women, Jacques for men.
BAR
LE CROCODILE
This green-shuttered bar has been dispensing affordable cocktails (more than 200 on the list)
since 1966. The '70s were 'epic' here, and the dream kicks on well into the new millenni-

can go from quiet tippling to raucous revelry. Hours can vary.

Mon-Sat; Maubert-Mutualité)
Down the hill from the Panthéon, this bar is covered in old posters above old couches and
drenched in 1970s and '80s rock ambience. Effortlessly underground and a real student
fave, it has bands and DJs playing mainly rock, plus some goth, reggae and pop.

A prime spot for lapping up rue Mouffetard's contagious 'saunter-all-day' spirit, this neigh-
bourhood hang-out sits on square St-Médard, one of the Latin Quarter's loveliest, with
flower-bedecked fountain, centuries-old church and market stalls spilling across one side.
Inside, old ladies and their pet dogs meet for coffee around dark wood tables alongside a
local wine-sipping set. In summer everything spills outside.
PUB
LE VIOLON DINGUE

Maubert-
Mutualité)
A loud, lively bar adopted by revolving generations of students, the 'Crazy Violin' attracts
lots of young English-speakers with big-screen sports shown upstairs and the flirty 'Dingue
Lounge' downstairs. The name is a pun on the expression
le violon d'Ingres,
