Sit at a wooden table behind the lace curtains hiding you from the world and indulge in fant-
astic old-fashioned classics like rognons de veau à l'ancienne (calf kidneys), boudin cam-
pagnard (black pudding) and sweet apple purée or roast quail with dates. Dishes - like the
decor - might seem simple, but you'll leave pledging to return.
NORTH AFRICAN
MOSQUÉE DE PARIS
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 43 31 38 20; www.la-mosquee.com ; 39 rue Geoffroy St-Hilaire, 5e; mains

Dig into one of nine types of couscous, or choose a heaping tajine or meaty grill at this
richly decorated, authentic-as-it-gets North African restaurant tucked within the walls of the
city's art deco-Moorish mosque, or sip a sweet mint tea and nibble on a pâtisserie orientale
between trees and chirping birds in the courtyard of the tearoom ( 9am-11.30pm) .
Feeling decadent? Book a formule orientale (€63), which includes a body scrub,
10-minute massage and a lounge in the hammam as well as lunch, mint tea and sweet pastry.

LE PRÉ VERRE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 43 54 59 47; www.lepreverre.com ; 8 rue Thénard; lunch menu €14.50,
mains €20; noon-2.00pm & 7.30-10.30pm Tue-Sat ; ; Maubert-Mutualité)
Noisy, busy and buzzing, the Delacourcelle brothers' jovial bistro plunges diners into the
heart of a Parisian's Paris. At lunchtime join the flock and go for the fabulous-value formule
dejeuner (lunch menu), which might be curried chickpea soup, guinea-fowl thigh spiced
with ginger on a bed of red and green cabbage, a glass of wine and loads of ultracrusty, ul-
trachewy baguette (the best).
Desserts mix Asian spices with traditional French equally well, thanks to chef Philippe's
extended sojourns in China, Malaysia, Japan and India. Marc is the man behind the interest-
ing wine list, which features France's small independent vignerons (wine producers).
BISTRO
TERROIR PARISIEN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 44 31 54 54; www.yannick-alleno.com ; 20 rue Saint-Victor, 5e; mains
€19-25; noon-2.30pm & 7-10.30pm; Maubert-Mutualité or Cardinal Lemoine)
A good concept (a focus on local dishes and ingredients) and an airy, modern interior give
Terroir Parisien a nice one-two punch. You can expect contemporary interpretations of typ-
ically Parisian fare, such as deconstructed onion soup or a perfect disk of blood sausage
