IL CAMPIELLO
Venetian carnival masks - intricately crafted from papier mâché, ceramics and leather - are
the speciality of this exquisite shop, which also sells jewellery made from Murano glass
beads. It was established by a native of Venice, to which the Île St-Louis bears more than a
passing resemblance.
BOOKS
LIBRAIRIE ULYSSE
You can barely move in between this shop's antiquarian and new travel guides,
National
Geographic
back editions and maps. Opened in 1971 by the intrepid Catherine Domaine,
this was the world's first travel bookshop. Hours vary, but ring the bell and Catherine will
open up if she's around.

This shop is all about wind-up toys, music boxes and puppets - mostly marionettes, which
sway and bob suspended from the ceiling.

PREMIÈRE PRESSION PROVENCE
Its name evokes the first pressing of olives to make olive oil in the south of France and that
is precisely what this gourmet boutique sells - be it as oil or in any number of spreads and
sauces (pesto, tapenade etc).
