Pont
Neuf)
One of the few places to drink on Île de la Cité, this wine bar dates to 1885 and lures a fair
few legal types from the nearby Palais de Justice (not to mention celeb writers and actors, as
the autographed snaps testify). A tasty choice of tartines (open sandwiches), charcuterie and
cheese platters complement its extensive wine list.
TEAROOM
LA CHARLOTTE DE L'ISLE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.lacharlottedelisle.fr ; 24 rue St-Louis en l'Île, 4e;
11am-7pm Wed-Sun;
Pont Marie)
This tiny place is a particularly lovely salon de thé (tearoom) with a quaint fairy-tale theme,
old-fashioned glass sweet jars on the shelf and a fine collection of tea to taste in situ or buy
to sip at home. Hot chocolate, chocolate sculptures, cakes and pastries are other sweet reas-
ons to come here.
CAFE
LE FLORE EN L'ÎLE
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 42 quai d'Orléans, 4e; 8am-1am; Pont Marie)
A tourist crowd piles into this excellent and elegant old-world people-watching spot with
prime views of the buskers on Pont St-Louis.
SHOPPING
Île St-Louis is a shopper's delight with crafty boutiques and tiny charm-rich
specialist stores, while Île de la Cité is good for souvenirs and tourist kitsch.
CHEESE
38 SAINT LOUIS
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 38 rue St-Louis en l'Île, 4e;
9am-9.30pm Tue-Sat, to 7pm Sun & Mon;
Pont Marie)
Saturday wine tastings, artisan fruit chutneys, grape juice and prepared dishes to go: there is
far more to this thoroughly modern fromagerie than its old-fashioned facade and absolutely
superb selection of first-class French cheese. The shop is run by a young, dynamic duo,
driven by food. Buy a wooden box filled with vacuum-packed cheese to take home.
MARKET
MARCHÉ AUX FLEURS REINE ELIZABETH II
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; place Louis Lépin, 4e;
8am-7.30pm Mon-Sat;
Cité)
