Deep leather couches and a 1930s Shanghai decor make this a wonderfully plush place to
meet for drinks. Live concerts often take place in the basement.

LA LIBERTÉ
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 196 rue de Faubourg St-Antoine, 11e;
9am-2am Mon-Fri, 11am-2am Sat &
Sun; ; Faidherbe-Chaligny)
Infused with the spirit of the '68 revolution, local institution the Liberty does simple meals
and wine by day, and is a heaving mix of regulars and drop-ins, raspy-voiced arguments and
glasses going clink by night. It's the kind of place where bobos, artists and old rockers find
their common point: a passionate love of drink and talk.
BAR
TAPE BAR
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 21 rue de la Roquette, 11e; 6pm-2am; Bastille)
Graffiti tags are scrawled on every possible surface inside the Tape Bar, marking this as the
only underground hangout within a minute's walk of the Bastille. Cheap drinks (even cheap-
er during happy hour from 6pm to 9pm) and decent music.
CLUB

noon-2am
Sun-Thu, to 2.30am Fri, to 3am Sat; Bastille)
Still squeezing the salsa theme for all it's worth, this enormous bar-restaurant with serious
dancing is spread over three highly impressive floors. It attracts Latinos, Latino wannabes,
Latino wannahaves and a gay crowd. Don't arrive too late; the queue to get in can be for-
midably long.
CLUB
SANZ BY BIZZ'ART
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 44 75 78 78; http://sanzbybizzart.com ; 49 rue du Faubourg St-Antoine,
11e; 6pm-5am Tue-Sat; ; Bastille)
A little cheesy, a little sleazy, this lively bar clad in red velvet and zebra stripes continues to
hold out as a busy drinking venue on the Bastille beat. DJs spin everything from electronic
to funk and soul, and the crowd is similarly unpredictable.
