A historic monument next to the city's winter circus, the Cirque d'Hiver (1852), this unique
address is practically a museum with its painted ceilings, mosaics on the wall, zinc bar and
purist art-deco style. A restaurant for decades, the mythical address was taken over in early
2014 by chef-sommelier duo Sven Chartier and Ewen Lemoigne.

Students and expats find the 'Storeys' (all three floors) with its faded sage-green facade a
viable alternative to the standard Marais fare, and happily appropriate the upgraded lounge
rooms upstairs.

All skinny jeans and cultivated pop-rock nonchalance, the Pop In somehow got itself on the
in-crowd map but maintains a relaxed regulars' vibe. It's popular with expats and Parisian
students starting their evenings, and the drinks are reasonably priced. Whisper sweet noth-
ings as you leave; it's had a lot of problems with noise-sensitive neighbours.

Housed in the beautiful 16th-century Hôtel de Marle, this gorgeous cafe in the Swedish Cul-
tural Institute lures Parisians like bees to a honey pot with its tranquil paved courtyard. Deli-
