Montmartre & Pigalle
COCKTAIL BAR
ARTISAN
Pigalle doesn't have many sophisticated drinking options, but the white-walled Artisan fits
the bill nicely, with delicious small plates, wines by the glass and well-mixed cocktails.
BAR
LA FOURMI
8am-1am Mon-Thu, to 3am Fri & Sat, 10am-1am
Sun; Pigalle)
A Pigalle institution, La Fourmi hits the mark with its high ceilings, long zinc bar and un-
pretentious vibe. Get up to speed on live music and club nights or sit down for a reasonably
priced meal and drinks.
BAR
LE PROGRÈS
A real live
café du quartier
perched in the heart of Abbesses, the 'Progress' occupies a
corner site with huge windows and simple seating and attracts a relaxed mix of local artists,
shop staff, writers and hangers-on. It's great for convivial evenings, but it's also a good
place to come for inexpensive meals and cups of coffee.
WINE BAR
CAVE DES ABBESSES
5-9.30pm Tue-Sun;
Abbesses)
Pass through the door at the back of the Cave des Abbesses wine shop and you'll discover,
no, not a storage room or a portal to another dimension, but instead a quirky little bar. It
feels like one of those places only regulars know about, but don't be intimidated; sit down,
order a plate of cheese and a glass of Corbières, and you'll blend right in.
