The Musée d'Orsay's celebrated canvases by impressionist and postimpres-
sionist masters including Renoir, Gaugin, Cézanne, Sisley, Manet, Monet, De-
gas and Toulouse-Lautrec might not have changed, but magnificent renovations at
the Musée d'Orsay now make them appear as if they're hung in an intimate home.
The grand former railway station (the Gare d'Orsay) housing the museum is an ex-
emplar of art nouveau architecture, of course, but France's treasured national col-
lection of masterpieces from 1848 to 1914 is the star of the show.
