R2 is a cousin of Racines in Passage des Panoramas, but that is about the extent of the fam-
ily resemblance. No 2 is a thoroughly modern, urban bistro with a contemporary, Philippe
Starck interior and an open stainless-steel kitchen where you can watch the hip, young,
black-dressed chefs, tattoos and all, at work.
What's cooking - just two or three choices for each course - is chalked on the board, and
the Louvre, handily so, is just around the corner.

OK, it might look like Hollywood's idea of an Indonesian restaurant with all those Balinese
handicrafts adorning the walls, but this is the real thing, run by the progeny of an Indonesian
diplomat exiled when former president Sukarno was overthrown in 1967.
If you think you can handle it, order one of four rijstafels (Dutch for 'rice table') - a
seemingly endless feast of seven to 10 courses. Those with nut allergies beware: peanuts ap-
pear in many dishes.

One of the Right Bank's talk-of-the-town addresses, with Chicago-born Daniel Rose in the
open kitchen and stunning food. It has no printed menu, meaning hungry gourmets put their
appetites in the hands of the chefs and allow multilingual waiting staff to reveal what's
cooking as each course is served. Reserve one month in advance.

Chef Adeline Grattard's ingeniously fused French and Cantonese flavours (fried squid with
sweet-potato noodles) have earned her no shortage of critical praise. Pair dishes on the fre-
quently changing menu with wine or tea, or sample the special lunch menu (€60) offered
Wednesday through Friday. Reserve up to two months in advance.
