Don't tell the masses standing dutifully in the queue at the iconic, old-fashioned restaurant
Chartier that there's a much better restaurant right next door. Local secret Le Zinc des Cav-
istes is as good for a full-blown meal (duck confit with mash, chicken fricassée with crushed
potatoes) as it is for sampling new vintages.

Clever veggie creations at this funky organic cafe include curried split-pea soup and canta-
loupe, pumpkin seed and feta salad but, being France, it's not all legumes - you can still or-
der a healthy cheeseburger with sprouts. A takeaway branch two doors down (at 8 rue de
Trévise, 9e) serves sandwiches, salads and thick slices of sweet potato and gorgonzola
quiche.

age-old northern Chinese tradition. It packs in a crowd, so arrive early to stake out a table on
the ground floor and watch the nimble noodle maker work his magic.
