RUE DE CHAILLOT: BUDGET BEAUTIFUL, PICNIC PERFECT
In an area laden with offices and pricey dining options, savvy locals flock to rue de
Chaillot at lunchtime to feast on a bevy of top-quality takeaway - perfect to picnic
with in a grassy park. The delightful, chestnut tree-shaded park on place des États-
Unis, the Seine, and the modernist gardens at the Musée du Quai Branly are not far
away.
Here are three local favourites:
Mes Bocaux Savoyard chef Marc Veyrat upped the takeaway stakes when he put his
small fleet of smart black food trucks on the road. Order gastronomic-to-go sand-
wiches and main dishes online before noon, then collect from the truck; the nearest
stop to the Eiffel Tower is in front of the Anglo-American pharmacy at 37 rue Marceau,
on the corner of rue de Chaillot, where it pulls in at 11.50am. Dishes ooze the creative
flair you'd expect of a former Michelin-starred chef: Veyrat's '21st-century' sandwich
is a culinary cocktail of ham, grated carrot, cumin, parmesan cheese and a wafer-thin
slice of chocolate.

V) The sign outside this busy canteen-style traiteur(caterer) simply reads 'plats
cuisinés'(cooked dishes), but there's no missing this top-choice takeaway address:
just look for the lunchtime line snaking halfway down the street. Delicious salads,
starters and hot dishes are cooked in its no-frills kitchen then bagged in plastic to go.
To avoid queuing, order ahead online.
Malitourne ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01 47 20 52 26; www.patisserie-malitourne.com ; 30 rue de Chail-
lot, 16e; 7.30am-7.30pm Mon-Fri, 8am-1pm Sat; Alma-Marceau) Finish with something sweet
from this great little pâtissier,chocolate-maker and traiteur(caterer). Going strong
since 1976, it has the added bonus of street entertainment: watch chocolate-makers
at work in their street-side kitchen with huge window designed to show them off.
DRINKING & NIGHTLIFE
Ogling the illuminated Eiffel Tower aside, being in the wealthy and predomin-
antly residential 16e after dark doesn't translate to much when it comes to
