Vegetarians, Vegans & Gluten-Free
Vegetarians and vegans make up a small minority in a country where viande (meat) once
also meant 'food', and they are not particularly well catered for. Specialist vegetarian res-
taurants are still few in number in Paris, and it's safe to say that vegetarians will still be met
with looks of genuine bewilderment at some traditional French bistros. On the up side, more
and more modern places are offering vegetarian choices on their set menus; another good
bet is non-French cuisine. See www.happycow.net for a decent guide to veggie options in
Paris.
Likewise, gluten-free dining isn't easy: try Noglu or Helmut Newcake for starters, but do
your research ahead of time.
