In-Depth Information
shorter periods of time (e.g., at different hours of the day) both the residence
consumption and the system load differs greatly from the monthly average and,
moreover, are no longer equal, from the following causes.
On the one hand, the consumers are not used continuously but intermittently.
During the day, any consumer operates a number of hours lower than 24. For a
consumer, the daily average time of use is generic denoted t use .Value of t use
differs from one consumer to another and, for the same consumer, varies from
month to month.
￿
On the other hand, throughout the day, any supplier works intermittently too,
with total operating hours lower than 24. The daily average time of operation is
generic denoted t oper . Value of t oper differs from one supplier to another and
varies from month to month.
￿
Furthermore, we accept the assumption according to which, in all periods of use/
operation, any consumer/supplier is fully loaded (namely is loaded at the level
of its nominal technical characteristics).
￿
￿
In addition, the consumers are powered by the power and heat storages, while
the suppliers
fill these storages. As a result, between consumers and suppliers
there does not exist a permanent and direct connection, but one intermittent and
which is intermediated by the power and heat storages.
Therefore, actually, the system components sizing means:
establishing of the nominal values for certain defining technical characteristics
of each system component (whether it is main or complementary and whether it
is of consumer, supplier, or storage type), namely those characteristics, called
characteristics required, whose values are imposed by the system functioning,
and based on which the component is chosen from the market and embedded
into the system,
￿
for each component, choosing those products which meets the required char-
acteristics of the component, and
￿
evaluating the daily operation time, t oper , of each supplier, and the daily use
time, t use , of each consumer,
taking into account:
￿
the monthly quantities of energy resulting from any kind of evaluation (whether
it refers to consumption or load, and whether it refers to the main components
that have been evaluated in Chap.
￿
Structural Design of the mCCHP-RES
System
or to the complementary components that will be evaluated in this
chapter), and
￿
the nominal technical characteristics of the components available in the market.
What follows presents the dimensioning of the main and complementary
components.
