Environment): For deploying Java
applications on servers. Includes tools for
JVM monitoring and tools commonly
required for server applications, but does
not include browser integration (the Java
plug-in), auto-update, or an installer.
JRE (Java Runtime Environment): Covers
most end-user needs. Contains everything
required to run Java applications on your
system.
Java Me SDK
Java for mobile devices.
Access, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Sybase Adaptive Server, and
Teradata databases. These tools and others are listed in Table 7.2, demon-
strating the wide range of Oracle support for various environments.
Application-development tool sets are just tools. For these to work effec-
tively, there must be a formalized process that enables the developers to
make the most productive use of these tools. For the remainder of this
chapter, we are going to delve into the various aspects of software engi-
neering such that the reader can get a high-level view of how all of this is
best integrated into the organization.
