timing of services they intended to run commercially (i.e. without subsidy). After D-day
only 42 days notice had to be given of any change to registered services (including
additions and withdrawals). Fares were a matter of commercial discretion and public
authorities lost the ability to subsidise them.
Registration was and remains automatic - there are no public-interest criteria applied
as far as service patterns are concerned and there are no powers available to modify
directly whatever operators propose. The only exception is that the Commissioners
