15.4.3.1 Processing ASRIS Map
The ASRIS database provides online access to the best publicly available informa-
tion on soil and land resources in a consistent format across Australia. The database
information is available in seven different scale levels. Seven different levels are
namely (1) land division, (2) land province, (3) land zone, (4) land district, (5) land
system, (6) land facet, and (7) site. The use and purpose of each level are different.
These data sets provide information on the source of the data and hence indicate qual-
ity of the individual soil attribute data sets. The values of the source data sets are as
follows: 2 = Digital Atlas of Australian Soils (1:2000000 scale mapping), 3 = ASRIS
Level 3 (approximately 1:10,000,000 scale mapping), 4 = ASRIS Level 4 (approxi-
mately 1:2500000 scale mapping), and 5 = ASRIS Level 5 (approximately 1:100000
scale mapping). The ASRIS Level 5 data, that is, land system data is the most detailed
mapping (value 5) through to the Atlas of Australian Soils, which is the broadest
scale mapping (value 2). Three different soil data sets namely clay, bulk density,
and plant available water capacity are taken into account in this study. Figure 15.8
shows the map for clay, bulk density, and the plant available water capacity. Associated
