and historical environmental data [13,33,36,41,56,58] for each of the independent
sources). It is not good enough to produce efficient decision support system using a
single data source. So there is an urgent requirement for on demand complementary
knowledge integration where different sources of environmental sensor data could
be used to complement each other automatically [1,17,37,38].

This study considered five different environmental data sources for large-scale uni-
fied complementary knowledge integration. They are as following:
Long Paddock SILO database operated by the Queensland Climate
Change Centre of Excellence (QCCCE) within the Department of Science,
Information Technology, Innovation and the Arts (DSITIA) based on all
4760 Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) weather station data [67].
Australian Water Availability Project (AWAP) database, which is devel-
oped to monitor the state and trend of the terrestrial water balance of the
Australian continent, using model-data fusion methods to combine both
measurements and modeling [64].
The Australian Cosmic Ray Sensor Network (CosmOz) database, which is a
near-real time soil moisture measurement network, developed through col-
laboration between CSIRO, Monash University, Charles Darwin University,
and the University of New South Wales [65].
The Australian Soil Resource Information System (ASRIS) database, which
provides online access to the best publicly available information on soil and
land resources in a consistent format across Australia [63].
MODIS (or MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) database,
which includes data from Terra MODIS and Aqua MODIS satellites—
viewing the entire Earth's surface every 1 to 2 days, acquiring data in 36
spectral bands, or groups [66].

considered for this study
