A series of organometallic ferrocene derivatives was studied in which the organo-
metallic unit is incorporated into peptide structures. Examples are the dimeric ferrocenyl
Gly-Cys derivative

[16] or the doubly amino acid bridged bisferrocene

Compounds

represent classical coordination compounds, which are attached to
the N-terminus of peptides. Especially complex

possesses a high potential for applica-
tions in radio therapeutics and diagnostics [18].
The examples shown in Figures 8.2-8.4 are only a few representatives of a huge class
of compounds which are prepared in order to investigate the mutual interplay between a
peptide and a metal center. Those studies are mainly directed towards the development of
novel sensing and diagnostic materials, to the search for new reactivities and selectivities,
or to new bioactive coordination compounds [19].
